A Field of Sticks, Dreams and Heart

A Field of Sticks, Dreams and Heart

January 30, 2016 7 Comments

This week I’ve been busting my butt catching up. I got a little behind over the Holidays, as well as some other things coming up that were completely unexpected. I’m way behind after having one of those, lay on the couch, covered with a blanket, leave me alone I’m checked out, weeks. That was two… Continue reading A Field of Sticks, Dreams and Heart

The Trees

The Trees

January 27, 2016 10 Comments

I’ve kind of become known for painting trees. Sometimes when I paint a tree its extremely automatic depending on how decorative the painting is. If it’s something that’s going to match a couch I turn my brain on autopilot, turn into a zombie for a few hours, and then suddenly awake to a finished painting.… Continue reading The Trees

A Forever Growing Heart

A Forever Growing Heart

January 22, 2016 10 Comments

I’ve been doing a lot of sketching over the last year.  I love coming up with concepts from my imagination.  For this painting I was thinking about how, as we get older, it seems our hearts grow in certain ways (metaphorically speaking).  Our families have new additions, and at the same time we lose people… Continue reading A Forever Growing Heart

Painting therapy

Painting therapy

January 19, 2016 10 Comments

Thank you to everyone who posted kind messages on my FB page.  I’m not quite ready to talk about it, but will fill you all in sometime. It was a rough week for me, and to help that I used painting as therapy.  Sometimes it’s good to paint what you feel.  It helps you think… Continue reading Painting therapy

Decided to make my latest commission into a series

Decided to make my latest commission into a series

January 13, 2016 5 Comments

I recently did a commission painting for a gallery in the mid-west.  You can read about it in my previous blogs.  I liked the background so much that I decided to focus on a series of paintings.  I’m going to start dark and intense and try to move them up to light and airy at… Continue reading Decided to make my latest commission into a series

If I won powerball…

If I won powerball…

January 13, 2016January 13, 2016 15 Comments

If I won the 1.4 billion dollar powerball I’d be really sad.  That is why I’m not playing. “What?” you say.  “You’d be… SAD???” Yes, that’s right, I’d be sad.  I started thinking about it today, because I can’t get away from the constant reminders that there is a 1.something billion dollar jackpot this week… Continue reading If I won powerball…

Reflecting on my latest workshop trip…

Reflecting on my latest workshop trip…

January 11, 2016 6 Comments

As I sit here in the Boston airport waiting for 2.5 hours for our flight to Presque Isle, ME, I’d like to reflect on my latest painting workshop trip.  Seeing familiar faces at workshops is always great.  It might be my favorite thing about travelling to the same place twice.  I feel like I have… Continue reading Reflecting on my latest workshop trip…

On the road in Nashville

On the road in Nashville

January 8, 2016 4 Comments

On the flight here, to Nashville,  I got the sketchbook out.   It’s a great way to pass the time on a flight.  Headphones in, sketchbook out, go into my own world.  It makes the flight go by much faster. Today is day two of my Nashville workshop.  The first day here we went to… Continue reading On the road in Nashville

The Cold Spell

The Cold Spell

January 5, 2016January 5, 2016 7 Comments

It turned cold here overnight. We’ve been having a pretty mild winter, but last night that changed. I went outside to give the chickens food and water and was attacked by the frosty air every step of the way. It just hurts more and more each step. Like little picks going into your exposed skin.… Continue reading The Cold Spell

Finished!

Finished!

January 4, 2016January 5, 2016 19 Comments

So for those of you who read yesterday’s post, you know I had a commission I had to finish before I left for Nashville. I had the painting almost done and realized I was doing the wrong painting. That left me with today to finish it. I couldn’t do the late night thing. Just wasn’t… Continue reading Finished!

About this blog
Hi, I'm Tim Gagnon. Over the past 10 years I’ve worked really hard to become a successful artist. I’ve created a popular site where I teach painting lessons online, have my work in numerous galleries around the US and Canada, and have sold hundreds of paintings all over the world. This blog isn’t about any of that. Here, I am going to venture away from the commercial side of the art world. I hope you join me here while I rant and rave about my struggles, watch as I experiment with new techniques and ideas, and listen as I ramble away about the important things, the unimportant, and the random things in my life. If you want to see the commercial side of my art, it won’t be here, you can find it by googling my name. There won’t be any links to any of the things I sell. This place is for me to express and explore. I like to write, play guitar, paint, draw, photograph, film… so you can expect to see all of those things while I take a year to explore being an artist. Thanks for joining me.
