I need more RAM for my brain.

I need more RAM for my brain.

Here I am, writing a post for my blog, The Art Year. My previous post was in April, about 7 months ago. At the beginning of the year I had a big goal to hold myself accountable and post on my blog frequently. I wanted to do that because it would make me focus on… Continue reading I need more RAM for my brain.

My dirty little secret..

My dirty little secret..

April 6, 2016April 7, 2016 5 Comments

I’ve been working on a new oil painting the last few days. I’ve been creating the entire scene from my imagination, using memories and dreams to flesh out the details. A lot of stuff runs through my head when I paint. Sometimes I go on autopilot depending on what stage I’m on. Mostly in the… Continue reading My dirty little secret..

Talking about practice…

Talking about practice…

March 11, 2016 4 Comments

We’re going to talk about practice, man. Allen Iverson won 0 championships, but he didn’t like talking about practice, man. Okay, the video is funny, cause he says practice a lot. But against Allen Iverson’s wishes I’m going to talk about practice. I just finished reading the book The Practicing Mind by Thomas B Sterner.… Continue reading Talking about practice…

The Orlando Adventure

The Orlando Adventure

February 25, 2016February 25, 2016 1 Comment

When I stepped outside to load my car up with my suitcase I checked the tempature. 15 degrees F. Pretty cold, but not all that bad for a February day in Northern Maine. I knew I’d be hitting warmer weather soon, because I was heading to the airport to fly out to Orlando to teach… Continue reading The Orlando Adventure

Practicing, exploring

Practicing, exploring

February 10, 2016February 10, 2016 2 Comments

I’m in the process of expanding my work into different areas. To do that I’ve been experimenting with the sketchbook, as well as different “loose” painting. Loose painting is something that seems so hard to do when you’re a beginner, and it’s taken me years to realize that sometimes you can get more information out… Continue reading Practicing, exploring

A Field of Sticks, Dreams and Heart

A Field of Sticks, Dreams and Heart

January 30, 2016 7 Comments

This week I’ve been busting my butt catching up. I got a little behind over the Holidays, as well as some other things coming up that were completely unexpected. I’m way behind after having one of those, lay on the couch, covered with a blanket, leave me alone I’m checked out, weeks. That was two… Continue reading A Field of Sticks, Dreams and Heart

So its 2016

So its 2016

January 1, 2016 15 Comments

Its that time of year when everyone comes up with a New Years resolution.  I’m not really a fan of resolutions because if there is something you want to stick to or change you should just do it when you want to, not on Jan 1.  Okay, can someone help me down off my soapbox… Continue reading So its 2016

About this blog
Hi, I'm Tim Gagnon. Over the past 10 years I’ve worked really hard to become a successful artist. I’ve created a popular site where I teach painting lessons online, have my work in numerous galleries around the US and Canada, and have sold hundreds of paintings all over the world. This blog isn’t about any of that. Here, I am going to venture away from the commercial side of the art world. I hope you join me here while I rant and rave about my struggles, watch as I experiment with new techniques and ideas, and listen as I ramble away about the important things, the unimportant, and the random things in my life. If you want to see the commercial side of my art, it won’t be here, you can find it by googling my name. There won’t be any links to any of the things I sell. This place is for me to express and explore. I like to write, play guitar, paint, draw, photograph, film… so you can expect to see all of those things while I take a year to explore being an artist. Thanks for joining me.
